After the concepts for exploration were selected, I have started to build some prototypes.

I have decided to start making them out of paper first to cut the cost, not waste materials I have at home and perhaps  to find out  what will I need to purchase in later stages of my prototypes.

Please see the images of prototypes below.

Selection Matrix A

First, I created selection matrix (A) , where under criteria I have wrote down the user needs.  And the evaluation was based on YES/NO/MAYBE approach, where I simply asked the question, does this concept meet specific user need. I did not calculate the net score in this selection matrix, as the YES answer for example not always meant that the concept met user need. (For example, the object should not be bulky- hence under the criteria column I wrote Bulky, so answer Yes to that is not meeting the user need). This might sound complicated, or unnecessary, however I found it easier to then evaluate concepts in the selection matrix B  using the  1 to -1 scale.

Also the Selection Matrix A helped me eliminated user needs for better evaluation purposes, for example user needs that were met by all of the concept (or the ones that required prototyping).

Selection Matrix B

In the Selection Matrix B, I have evaluated each concept in relation to each other and the user needs ( This is my subjective judgment as to the relative performance of the concepts with respect to the criteria. )

Also, as it was mentioned above I have revised the user needs under the criteria column.  After the evaluation,  I have decided the concepts that I will be exploring with prototypes, those Net scores are highlighted with yellow.  I have decided to select high number of concepts ( five out of 10), as I believe when I will start exploring and building prototypes,  some will be eliminated.

I have inserted a very small image of each concept in to the Matrix, just as reminder and reference. To view the actual sketch of the concept in full, please visit the week 3 assignments.
